Day 14 - Consall Forge to Endon

Tuesday 16th June

7 miles, 7 locks

Leaving the River Churnett which branches to the right
Woke up to a gurgling full toilet - we were up and out cruising just after 7.30 to get a pump out. Also out of milk!

Cruising towards Cheddleton
There appeared to be more water in the canal which made it easier to navigate. Stopped at Cheddleton for milk which was a mission as the post office and village stores was closed so we had to walk up a steep hill on a busy road to the next shop - what you have to do to get a cup of tea!

Cruised on up Hazelhurst locks and on to Park Lane services where there were two other boats using the facilities. Had a chat and did a self pump out which appeared to be very effective.

Cruised a short distance to Post Lane moorings where we stopped for lunch - decided to stay the night rather than go back to Hazelhurst junction. Watched Nadal get beaten and Murray win at Queens. Paul walked to Endon stores to get new pump out cards.

Decided to stroll to the Traveller's Rest at Stanley for a drink - another even longer and steeper hill - but it was worth it. Country pub with lots of brass very busy for a Tuesday evening. There were leather straps hanging from the beams which the locals were hanging onto. Got chatting to a man who knew the area well and he gave us a lift back to the boat via the Stanley reservoir which is now an activity centre for schools etc.

Interested onlookers opposite our mooring at Endon
The cows in the field opposite enjoyed a paddle in the canal and were quite interested in the boat.

Forgot to mention the shaving light wouldn't turn off so Paul fixed it - no problem except that as he took it off the wall the plate behind fell onto the sink knocking the smelly fragrance sticks and oil flying - we now have a very sweet smelling toilet!
