Day 70 - Daresbury to the flash

Tuesday 11th August

14 miles, 1 lock

Set off before 9am to get to Preston Brook for the 9.30 time slot going South. Almost perfect timing only had to wait four minutes. Then on through two further tunnels and soon we were back on the Trent and Mersey.

The Anderton boat lift
Stopped at Anderton for lunch and had a look at the boat lift making Paul jealous as we weren't going down. The area was very busy. Lots of people buying tickets for the trip boat. The boat moored behind us was waiting for River Canal Rescue as it's engine would not switch off. We had already passed two boats adrift earlier that day.

Leaving Anderton we saw a boat across the canal with no skipper. Shortly after a man walked across the gunnel and with the help of green boat man poled the boat into the nearby marina. He too was waiting for an engineer. He had lost his prop on the river.

The Lion Salt Works Museum
Cruised on to Lion Salt Works where we paid to go in the newly opened museum. Very good. Excellent displays and information. Had a cream tea in the café - first of the summer. Took a look at the Salt Barge Inn but decided to cruise on to the flash where we had stayed a couple of times before.

Another quiet evening. It was just warm enough to sit out with a glass of wine and watch darkness fall.

Sue sitting on the roof
Oh, it was a day of note! Rachael and Ross's 3rd wedding anniversary and I sat on the roof of the boat as we cruised for the first time in two and a bit years!
